On Friday walking to work I walked by a man, he wore a white or cream t-shirt with a graph on it, x-y axis, with curved lines pointing to the right, some up, most down. The shirt read: prepare for a low-energy future. The old man, seeing my puzzled look, chided - yes, you can read the shirt. Yes, I think that’s why you wore it. Yes, I did look puzzled, not for awkwardness (though you’re an old man!), not for the illegibility (inevitable). No, puzzled just because I am, on the contrary, preparing for a high-energy world. For we can afford nothing less. Unnelectrified tenants in India need AC just as much as I do. Probably more.
